A flyer war is being waged against The Box doorman
So my post the other day about a Page Six Magazine Box feature being bullshit has been picked up at Down By The Hipster, a nightlife blog.

Fans of the Box Fight Back
So what happens when your favorite night spot gets slammed with a bit of negative press? Take the offensive. Ray LeMoine decries Joshua David Stein’s article from Page Six Mag, calling it a sham from the very start. LeMoine begins by saying, “I don’t know if they have fact checkers at the NY Post’s Page Six Mag, but yesterday a story ran about The Box where the first sentence was a lie.” As for the belief that the club may be slipping, LeMoine is adamant that the opposite is true, stating:“In truth, The Box is actually better now than a year ago. The owners have put together a more fluid show, one without boring filler acts. And the crowd is more downtown than a year ago. After Box-owner Cordell Lochin was locked up for drug trafficking, Serge Becker, another owner, hired Christian Alexander. Christian lives in the LES and is tied to downtown’s art, music, fashion, and media circles more than anyone who’s ever worked at the Box save Hammerstein. Lochin was known for his celeb-ties, whereas Christian is the guy celebs come to for a unique egalitarin NYC vibe. Now on any given night you’ll see a Supreme-type with a bartender from a local spot hanging with Ally Hilfiger and Robin Thicke.”
That’s hot. That’s so so hot and cool. But is it true? Our experts say possibly not, with a Little Birdy saying that while some musicians are still showing up to get on stage, the overall celeb buzz has dried up drastically. This debate is far from over, but maybe that is true for The Box too.
I wonder who this Little Birdy is? I can list seven people who hit The Box either nightly or tri-weekly who would counter her claims, but whatever. As I wrote in my original post, on Saturday alone Drew Barrymore, Eve Mendes, Ashley Olsen, Josh Lukas, and Anthony Andersen were all in the building.
As someone pointed out, The Box has created a whole new level of hater. When was the last time one nightclub created so much press, most of it hate-filled? Bungalow 8 never had to deal with this. Maybe that’s because haters don’t hang in Chelsea like they do the LES? Who knows?
On top of all the blog/media hate, The Box is also facing a flyer campaign against it’s doorman “Gans,” as reported in NY Daily News yesterday. Supposedly, the guy eats his own feces and touches little boys. Haha…
All I can say is, go to The Box and tell me it sucks, that there are no celebs there, that you didn’t have the weirdest night of your life, etc. But haters can’t get in. Lacking access to the teat, the rejected hate on a level never seen before in nightlife…

People must have really hated the shit out of the Studio 54 doorman, and they didn’t even have blogs to vent and hate!

You mean they didn’t have Page6 the Magazine…hhaha

Hey Sean,
The Box is no Studio 54, and Genc is no Steve Rubell. Not hating, just laying it out like it is.

For what it’s worth, I’m the one who posted the flyers. I’ve been there plenty of times. I was there in December 2006 when it had one of its first parties. I actually know Josh Lucas (not Lukas, so you might wanna check your spelling), Alan Cumming, and several of the people involved in the organization. I was even there for Simon’s birthday this past winter. I’ve been there through all the various incarnations of doorman at the joint, from Terry to Christian to Joelle to Genc. So, contrary to all your speculation, I don’t go not because I’m hating, but because I discovered recently that a friend of mine was date-raped by Genc. End of discussion. It’s funny that the owners claim to know who I was, since I just popped in to the place last night after I had read a Daily News article claiming that I had been identified and arrested, none of which is true.
And, yes, the place was boring. Maybe it’s because all the hot parties were at the TFF, but I doubt that, coz the last time I went (late night around 2:30 pm), the show had just gotten over and all the bottle-service Eurotrash had taken over the stage as a dance floor.
I came. I saw. I passed.

Mr In Yo,
Wouldn’t it make more sense to press charges against Genc then leak his arrest or warrant to a gossip page? I have no clue who Josh Lucas is, btw, just relaying a text message. Nor I have any love for that doorman either—he’s a hater. But you have to admit making a flyer is hater-ish, no?

I’m not a huge fan of clubs and I’ve only been to The Box a handful of times, but I’ve always had fun. Seems it’s like every other place in NYC — some nights blow your mind, others more or less suck. You win some, you lose some. But it seems to me The Box is winning more than it’s losing…
With regard to your friend, InYoFace, she really should consider formally pressing charges if she hasn’t already — a smear campaign like this only questions her credibility/motives should she chose to in the future. Date rape sucks.

Actually, I never leaked anything to any gossip mag. I simply posted the flyers at various spots throughout downtown. Clearly, someone not connected to me at all found them newsworthy enough to publicize them.
As I had posted elsewhere, I am really stunned that it attracted any attention at all, even on a blog, let alone the Daily News. I also suspected that the bastiges at the Box would somehow have found a way to have ripped them all down before the larger public noticed them.
Ray and McKenzie, I think I get the drift of what you’re saying, but this is actually about a lot more than simply making sure a low-life is held accountable for his deeds and isn’t merely an instance of “hating.” I’m targeting both the individual prick Genc and the larger establishment as a whole: a) because my understanding is that the crime involved date-rape drugs that were actually provided by someone in the Box and b) having seen enough of these low-lifes up close and in person, I realize they are wholly unattractive people, both on the inside and on the outside, and it’s about time someone said something instead of kissing their lame asses. Now, I’m actually gonna sign off, coz none of these cretins, from Genc to Miriam to Sadattu (correct spelling?, coz I certainly don’t give a shit) are really worth wasting anyone else’s time.
Peace out.

Cretins? Wow! Sting was there all night thursday! Dancing enjoying the shows! The vibe! It was really chill. Family atmosphere! Why hate? Just go somewhere else!
