“Nuclear Winter” (coming this summer) for Democrats, Hillary Clinton pushes the button

It’s official, Hillary Clinton will do anything it takes to change the rules as we near the end of the game. In other words, she’s now officially actively lobbying to have the delegates seated from Michigan and Florida - two democratic primaries that all Democratic candidates agreed not to campaign in and that the votes would not count. Of course, Hillary’s name was the only viable candidate listed in those primaries, basically giving her the advantage of running un-opposed by the current Democratic front-runner, Barack Obama. Therefore, if she can pull this off, she’ll have effectively stolen the nomination and possibly put McCain right in the White House, even as Barack Obama continues to win the support of more super delegates every day.

From Huffington Post:

“There is no secret plan…. The Clinton campaign has been vocal in stating that the votes of 2.5 million people must be respected. Hardly a day goes by when a Clinton official doesn’t publicly declare that the votes of Michigan and Florida count and that the delegations from those states should be seated.”

The campaign’s public assertions stand in contrast to its response to inquiries prior to publication of the story. At that point, Clinton aides insisted on keeping all comments either off the record or on deep background, or did not respond to questions at all. The campaign statement appeared to be designed to try to reduce the significance of the story.

In a more typical reaction to the story, political analyst Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia said: “Wow. The nuclear option will yield nuclear winter for the Democratic Party.”

With Hillary stating her agreements with McCain on maintaining a long-standing presence in Iraq, and bashing the “elite”, she should do well tomorrow.

Get the clip of Ickes on MSNBC today arguing with the hosts—pretty funny stuff. That McCain-Hillary-Iraq thing is from 2005, btw.

Not only is it from 2005, but it is not her agreeing with McCain to a long-term commitment in Iraq, it is her saying that casualty levels -and not time- are the barometer for public disapproval for (limited) wars. That is 100% right on. I just read a RAND Corp study on the correlation between casualty levels and public approval after Vietnam. If people stopped dying in Iraq, (on both sides), no one here would care if Americans stayed there, (Arabs might care though). That HP article is going out on a limb to tie her policy in with McCains… Now, 3 years and a few thousand American deaths later, she -like Obama- is calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal, (bad move in my opinion, [think Cambodia]). McCain is calling for nothing of the sort. Just because she understands how conflicts and public opinion work, doesn’t mean she is a maniac like Mr. John “Send more troops to kill those Iranian Al Qeda Commies” McCain. That connection is bullshit.
