Clinton’s chances cut in half

The Democratic party’s rules and bylaws committee meets on May 31 to figure out what to do about Florida and Michigan. Clinton’s been pushing to have them fully seated, even though Obama didn’t campaign in Florida and wasn’t even on the ballot in Michigan, and despite the fact that she initially agreed not to count these states since they were breaking the DNC’s rules by moving their primary dates up, but whatever…she wants to win and clearly will do anything at this point to get the nomination.

Even though pretty much everyone knows that her arguments are bogus, she’s been pushing them relentlessy, but it may have just gotten a lot harder for her. The Democratic party’s lawyers issued an analysis stating that party rules call for half of the delegates to be seated, or for the full delegation to be seated but with each delegate getting only half a vote. If the rules committee chooses to go this route, then the end result will be that Florida and Michigan will seat half their delegates. Of course, that still begs the question of how those delegates will be apportioned. Nevertheless, it would only raise the magic number somewhat, and it doesn’t change the reality of the situation, which is that Obama should officially take the nomination in the next few weeks.
